Q.1. What is cataract ?
A.1. Opacification of the normal transparent lens is called “cataract”.
Q.2. What causes cataract ?
A.2. Age related, Traumatic, Metabolic, Toxic, Secondary cataract.
Q.3. What is the treatment for cataract ?
A.3. The only treatment for cataract is its surgical removal.
There are two treatment options available for cataract:
- Extra Capsular Cataract Extraction (conventional technique)
- Micro-incision Cataract Surgery- Phacoemulcification (Modern Technique)
Q.4. Can cataract be treated with Medicines, Yoga or eye exercises ?
A.4. There is presently no medical treatment,Yoga,eye exercise that will prevent cataracts or reverse them once they develop.
Q.5. What is Micro phaco technique and it’s advantages ?
A.5. Microincision Phacoemulsification is a procedure in which the cataract is removed with a sub 2 mm incision and a foldable micronicision lens is implanted though it.
Advantages of Phacoemulsification:
- The operation is least injurious to the eye.
- It is a day care procedure with fast visual recovery
- It is a stitchless operation & is done under local or topical anaesthesia (Use of eye drops)
